YouTube Red is eroticism embrued in a storyadding a third title to its holiday slate.
The Google video platform's streaming service announced Tuesday it is partnering up with Blumhouse again for a new horror comedy series called 12 Deadly Days.
The series, which is scheduled for a Dec. 12 debut, features a dozen interconnected tales of the residents of Saturn, Calif. as they "find themselves terrorized by everything from killer carolers and lovelorn vampires to cursed fruitcakes and haunted Christmas trees," according to the release.
Episodes were directed by genre talent including Joe Lynch, Joe Menendez, Eduardo Sanchez and Gregg Hale and John Hyams.
The cast features a handful of traditional actors -- such as Betty Gabriel (The Purge: Election Year), Kaitlin Doubleday (Empire), Dohn Norwood (Hell on Wheels) and Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) -- as well as top YouTubers including Anna Akana, Burnie Burns, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Brittany Furlan, Tre Melvin, Mikey Murphy, Eric Ochoa, Nikki Limo, Troy Pindell, Meghan Rienks, Jake Roper and Alexis Zall.
This is YouTube's Red third holiday-related programming slotted for this month. The platform released Jingle Ballin' —which stars Liza Koshy -- on Tuesday, and said a Mariah Carey-starring Christmas special will debut on Dec. 19.
12 Deadly Daysis the second collaboration between Blumhouse and YouTube.
In October, Blumhouse Productions and producer Jason Blum partnered with the platform for a program that allowed creators -- and Dwayne "The Rock Johnson -- to make horror-inspired, VR productions.
In a recent interview, Blum, known for The Purge, Ouija, Insidiousand Paranormal Activityfranchises, told Mashablehe likes partnering up with YouTube because he feels horror "works extremely well in short form."
Still, the series is one of the first for Blumhouse TV after being relaunched under co-presidents Jeremy Gold and Marci Wiseman.
We are excited to start this new chapter of Blumhouse Television with 12 Deadly Days," the two said in a statement. "[Executive producers] Chris [Cullari] and Jennifer [Raite] created a unique and original series that Troy and his team at Dakota along with Josh and Pat have helped bring to life. YouTube Red is the perfect home for such an irreverent and scary series and we can’t wait to share it with everyone."
Blumhouse Television has won two Emmy awards for The Normal Heart and The Jinx, and two Peabody awards for The Jinxand How to Dance in Ohio.
Blumhouse is currently producing the adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel Sharp Objects. It is also the studio behind a limited series adaptation of journalist Gabriel Sherman's acclaimed reporting on Roger Ailes, shepherded by Academy Award winner Tom McCarthy.
