Mild spoilers ahead for Us,Watch Angel Has Fallen Online proceed with caution if you haven't seen it yet.
Here's a different song of ice and fire, compliments of Usstar Lupita Nyong'o.
For reasons that aren't explained -- and whatever, who cares, this is great -- Nyong'o took to Twitter on Sunday to do a little analysis. The Usstar is caught in the grip of Game of Thrones fandom, just like everyone else. And because loving Game of Thronesinvolves thinking about Game of Thonesconstantly, Nyong'o has some Thoughts.
Specifically, she feels there are cinematic and textual links to be found between the Tethered in Jordan Peele's March 2019 hit and the soon-to-be-completed HBO series' White Walkers. You might or might not agree, but talking it all out is a good way to kill time while we count the hours together until the next Thronesepisode.
(Reminder, because the internet is often a cold and joyless place: We're just having some fun here. This isn't an actualcritical response to Nyong'o's jokey thread, it's just an attempt to make your time here a little more entertaining.)
Nyong'o hits the ground running, building a direct comparison between the White Walkers and her own movie's Tethered in her very first tweet.

Points 1, 2, and 3... all true. The White Walkers and Tethered both are fashion-challenged and largely mute, and if you're a plain, old flesh-and-blood human they definitely want to see you dead.

This one's more of a stretch, but your mileage may vary.
On the Tethered side, scissors are definitelya signature weapon for Nyong'o's doppelganger character, Red. Not so much for the other Tethered, though.Shehas a signature weapon, but is it really accurate to say that theydo?
As for the White Walkers, the specific spear pictured here isn't something we've seen all of them use; it's from a very specific moment in Season 7. But! Ice-forged blades of some kind do seem to be the preference for White Walkers, so signature weapon tracks there.

Dead on, x2. The Night King and Red both have a death stare that even puts Luigi to shame. And they both have some sharp edges come out of their heads, though the Night King's version of an edge tamer would have to involve some kind of heat or fire. Maybe a cigar lighter?

On the Tethered front: that's kinda their whole schtick, right? Subsisting on raw, dead rabbit is no way to live. They've realized that and they're just trying to carve out a little comfort for themselves, but it's more than fair to say that they're not the healthiest eaters when we meet them.
As for the White Walkers (and their wight army)... has the show established anything at all about their dietary habits? My guess is that none of them eat because they're murderous dead things that just want to make more dead things, and they don't really care about filling their non-functional bellies.
Nyong'o also delved into some of what sets the two threatening forces apart.

This is true... but isn't that kind of how the White Walkers operate as well? Sure, Game of ThronesSeason 8 has been very obviously building up around the march of the wight army and their imminent attack on Winterfell, but go far enough back and you'll realize: Westeros didn't exactly know what was coming until it arrived.
Sure, there were a few people who knew better (and who were regarded as raving wingnuts for their efforts). There's also the under-explored history of Westeros and the general growing sense of anxiety among all Westerosi as their summer gave way to winter.

Fire versus ice! She said the thing! It makes sense! (The fire on Game of Thronesis widely considered to be dragonfire. So "A Song of Fire and Ice" is actually referencing the showdown between zombies and dragons that we're probably about to get our first glimpse of in Season 8's third episode.)

WAIT A MINUTE.
First of all, all those cute, little hopping bunnies may be living, breathing creatures in the GIF Nyong'o shared, but anyone who's seen Usknows what they're doing there and what their purpose is. I don't particularly care for the way PETA conducts the business of speaking out for animals, but I think we'd stand together against the Tethered's treatment of rabbits.
Second... low blow forcing us to watch Viserion's defeat all over again. As if the battle of Winterfell isn't already poised to rip our hearts out repeatedly as faves succumb to the White Walker onslaught. I'm calling foul on this point, both because it's wrong and because it's so rude.
But all in good fun. That's it, that's the end of the thread. Hopefully this fun exercise inspires Nyong'o to treat her followers to more critical looks at Game of Thronesbefore this final season ends. Who among us wouldn't want to see an episode recap built entirely out of UsGIFs?
