TikTok star Khaby Lame,Mika Muroi Archives the most followed creator on the platform with over 162 million followers, was detained by ICE on Friday.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which has recently been tasked by the Trump administration to expand its crackdown on immigration and enforce the U.S. president's "mass deportations" election promise, confirmed in a statement to Mashable that Lame was detained for overstaying his visa.
"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations," a spokesperson said. "Lame entered the United States April 30 and overstayed the terms of his visa. Lame was granted voluntary departure June 6 and has since departed the U.S."
Lame is currently the most followed person on TikTok, with over five million more followers than Charli D'Amelio and over 40 million more than MrBeast. The Senegalese-Italian influencer built a following with silent skits making fun of "life hack" TikToks, with his videos eventually evolving to incorporate celebrities.
He has been active on social media since the detainment, but has not addressed what happened.
