Nothing launched Australia onto the world stage quite like 1986 film Crocodile Dundee.
The Watch In the Cut (2003)star of it all, Paul Hogan, has finally been recognised for his contribution to the local film industry by receiving the Longford Lyell Award from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA).
But Hogan himself doesn't think he really deserves it.

"He's (Rush) an actor. I only play one character. I'm a huge one-hit wonder," Hogan said.
Your words, Dundee. Your words.
"Crocodile Dundeestarted out as a sketch it was going to be "Hoges in New York" and it just sort of grew from there -- a fluke."
The seminal '80s film became a hit in the U.S. and topped box office charts for weeks in places like Paris, Rome and Stockholm.
"I think it went number one in every country, I'm not sure about Nicaragua, but it went number one everywhere else and it was the first independent movie to ever go number one right around the world," Hogan said.

Despite the film's play on an mostly untrue stereotypes about Aussies, the appreciation for the utilitarian, outback-dwelling Mick Dundee hasn't seemed to die down.
The film also came at a time in the '80s when America seemed genuinely obsessed with Australia, with stars like Olivia Newton-John and Yahoo Serious making their mark overseas.
Fun fact: That extra shrimp on the barbie is still there. Waiting.
Please come to Australia. #tourism
