As you'll recall, back in September, Hillary Clinton was forced to apologize after labeling half of Trump's supporters a "basket of deplorables" while speaking at a fundraiser. Trump voters took the insult and ran with it, which is how we ended up here, with grammatically incorrect "Deplorable N' Chief" tees.
Minion-themed Trump merch isn't a new phenomenon. As Philly Magazinereported in September, "Deplorable Me" shirts -- a play off of Despicable Me-- popped up on the internet just days after Clinton's initial comment.
AsMinionsscreenwriter Brian Lynch told the magazine, he doesn't quite follow the reasoning behind the shirts.
"The Minions work for villains. The worse a villain is, the more they want to work for him or her. So the Deplorable Me shirts are declaring, or celebrating that their candidate is a villain, and that's ... strange. It's not even a mixed message. It's 'He's a Bad Guy, Vote The Bad Guy.'"
